Fuel and Environmental Biotechnology

The Laboratory of Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology

Backed by more than 30 years of R&D experience, the Laboratory of Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology is designed as a versatile platform for research, monitoring, identification and prevention of microbial contaminations in Fuel and fluid- containing systems.

Providing continuous microbial monitoring and control of fuel and water systems that enable the assessment of the likelihood for problems developing and addressing of existing damage before it becomes unmanageable.

Addressing Problems associated with:

  • Biocorrosion and Biodeterioration of Metals
  • Biodegradation of Hydrocarbons and Antifreeze additives
  • Biofilm formation and Biofouling development in Fuel and Water systems
Developing research-based solutions for environmental contaminants
  • Bioremediation, Biodegradation and Bioaugmentation of contaminants in the environment:
    • Bioremediation of soil contaminated with fuels
    • Biodegradation of residual oil utilized in metal cutting emulsions
    •  Bioaugmentation of heavy metals from contaminated soils and water
    • Applying Bioreactors for Nitrate and Perchlorate remediation of water

The laboratory employs state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary, analytical, molecular and microbiological tools such as Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), Gas Chromatography (GC), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) equipped with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and Florescent Microscopy.
